In Kenya’s Usin Gishu County, authorities have illegally arrested a person to set up a fake police station in Cherus Centre, Kesses sub-county. The suspected, Colins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, established unauthorized police patrol base without alleged approval of the National Police Service (NPS).
Leitich went in large length to make his fake police station official, even painted the facility in Kenya’s police colors. The residents should be surprised to know that the patrol base was not affiliated to the government. According to law enforcement officials, the suspected police officers were implementing and operating the convenience without legal rights (Tuko, The Standard).
The case is reminiscent of the previous police impersonation scams. In 2013, Joshua Waiganjo was arrested for years to present as Assistant Commissioner of Police. Similarly, in India, a gang ran a fake police station from a hotel for eight months, withdraws money from the locals (The Guardian).
Leitich is currently in police custody as the investigation is on. The officials have urged the public to be vigilant and report suspicious law enforcement activities. The fake police station incident underlines the need for tight safety measures to influence unauthorized persons and prevent the public from cheating the public.
