According to The Standard, the accident occurred on Friday, March 14, 2025 at around 2:00 AM. The witnesses reported that due to the failure of the truck brake, the control lost control and entered the upcoming traffic, crashing into a 14-seater matatu traveling from Kitale to Nairobi. The impact was fatal, leaving all the passengers and the driver dead. The victims included nine men, four women and a child.

Kenya Red Cross quickly established tracing and psychosocial support services at the last rites house of Molo Sub-Country Hospital Funeral Home. Officials are now investigating the cause of the accident, pointing to mechanical failure with preliminary reports.
